Koločep - green Island. The smallest of the three settled Elafiti Islands, closest to Dubrovnik & also famous for its rich vegetation and picturesque bays.

Koločep or Kalamota as the locals call it, used to be a place well know for its rich coral finds. Its two settlements - Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo – are equal rulers of two separate sides of the island; both situated close to sandy bay and are composed of stone houses surrounded by exotic gardens.

A 3 km winding promenade connects the settlements and kilometers of other promenades and forest paths can be also found on the island. Not only its beautiful vegetation - it’s covered with pine trees, olive groves, oranges, lemons, agaves and herbal plants, but the numerous agrological remains make exploring the islands attractions even more appealing. Remains of the old churches, basilicas and summer residences, from the ancient times of Greece and Rome to Napoleonic times, are scattered all over the island: there are seven pre-Romanic churches dating back to the times of Croatian kings.

There is a beautiful sandy beach In Donje Čelo bay and a few others rocky beaches sheltered in small bays of Koločep’s very indented coastline. There is also a Blue Cave on the island, which can be accessed by swimming.

Explore!

Visit Witch’s cave and Blue cave located on the island. Enjoy the view by taking a one hour walk - small forest paths can take you everywhere around the island. Long sandy beach in Donje Čelo Bay is ideal place for swimming and there is also a FKK beach nearby.

Historical tour!

Take an historical tour round the island. The Assumption of Mary Church, located in Donje Čelo, is built in 13th century. On the way to Gornje Čelo you can visit The Church of St. Anthony from the 15th century and admire one of the greatest works of Dubrovnik school of painting, an altar-piece, done by the Ivan Ugrinović in 15th century. In Gornje Čelo stands a pre-Romanesque church of St. Anthony of Padova, built in 11th/12th, and some other pre-Romanesque churches.

New!

The school of traditional skills and knowledge offers educational visits to families who live on the island and practice their skills – how to produce carob brandy, to fish old fashioned way, or how to milk goats to make yogurt and cheese.
