Elafiti Islands are true jewels of Dubrovnik archipelago. Chain of
islands between the Pelješac peninsula and the Lapad peninsula used
to be a favorite place for summer residences of the Dubrovnik
aristocrats.
The remains of old churches, residences, basilicas are
scattered all over the islands, so there is a lot for tourists to
see, and along with their still preserved natural beauties and
peacefulness (no traffic, no crowds), Elafiti are really a perfect
getaway from cities crowds. Their name derives from the ancient
Greek word ‘elafos’ meaning deer (deer islands).
The
Elafiti
Islands seen from Dubrovnik to the north are Daksa, Kolocep,
Sv. Andrija, Lopud, Ruda, Šipan, Jakljan, Tajan and Olipa.
Most of these islands are very small and uninhabited.
The most popular
islands are Koločep, Lopud and Šipan and are also the
only inhabitated islands.
Experience!
Sailing trip is the ideal way to experience
beautiful Elafiti
Islands; enjoy the sun
and the clear blue see that surrounds the islands. Be shore to take
a swim and stay awhile on one of the islands beaches
and
picturesque bays.
Take a one day trip to
Koločep, Lopud
or
Šipan.
It’s fairly easy to reach them as Jadrolinija’s ferry boats go on a
regular basis departing from Dubrovnik’s port Gruž. |
